In a significant step towards fostering greater gender inclusivity across the Mediterranean maritime sector, the MEDPorts met with the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) to explore future collaboration.
On June 11, Ana Rumbeu, Chair of the MEDPorts Gender Equality Committee and Training Director at Fundación Valenciaport, and Maite Román, representative of the Port of Barcelona, held a promising exchange with Francesc Carbonell, Head of Sector for Transport and Urban Development at the UfM to discuss opportunities for joint initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality in port communities.
The UfM has long been committed to advancing gender equality in the Mediterranean through policy dialogue, regional cooperation, and multi-stakeholder engagement. This meeting laid the groundwork for aligning MEDPorts’ sector-specific efforts with broader regional strategies supported by the UfM.
As the maritime industry continues to evolve, this collaboration signals a shared commitment to creating inclusive and equitable working environments across the region’s port authorities and related institutions.
