The MEDPorts Association confirmed on Tuesday 07 February 2023 the appointment of two new members to the association. This brings the number of members to 25 Mediterranean ports.

The Hellenic Ports Association, comprises of all 13 Greek Port Authorities, both those under state control and the ones under private investor majority, and 14 Port Funds. The Association regularly contributes and participates in the formulation of policy proposals and legislative initiatives. Its mission is to efficiently promote and support Greek port positions at national, European and international level, always targeting to enhance economic growth and job creation with a special focus to local communities, regions and societal needs.

• Greek Port Authorities (Piraeus, Thessaloniki, Patra, Herakleio, Volos, Igoumenitsa, Corfu, Elefsina, Rafina, Lavrio, Alexandroupoli, Kavala, Evoia)
• Port Funds (Mykonos, Santorini-Thira, Kos, Rhodes-South Dodecanese, Katakolo-Pyrgos, Syros, Lesvos, Milos, Rethymno, Ios, Chania Prefecture, Tinos-Andros, Kalamata, Skiathos)

The Port Authority of the Eastern Ligurian Sea is responsible for managing and developing the ports of La Spezia and Marina di Carrara ensuring the efficient and sustainable use of the ports under its jurisdiction, as well as promoting economic and social development in the surrounding regions. La Spezia is the second-largest container port (gateway traffic) in the country and together Marina di Carrara are known for their extensive container, Ro-ro, bulk cargo and passengers facilities serving as a major gateway for trade between Europe and Asia.

The ports have undergone significant expansion and modernization in recent years, with the construction of new facilities and the implementation of advanced technologies with innovative custom procedures to improve efficiency and reducing environmental impact. They are also well-connected to the national and international transportation networks, with direct access to the TEN T core port corridors ScanMed and Med. In particular La Spezia is among the top ten European ports for the use of rail freight transport (>30% of container traffic by rail).

The Port Authority of the Eastern Ligurian Sea works closely with various stakeholders, including shipping companies, cargo owners, terminal operators, and local communities, to promote the sustainable growth and competitiveness of the ports supporting the country’s trade and economic growth.
