Gender Inclusion within the MEDports
According to the BIMCO/ICS 2021 Seafarer Workforce Report, women today represent only 1,2% of the global seafarer workface. Within the framework for the Taranto Port Days, this particular issue was taken into account. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 on Gender Equality is an issue that blatantly regards all Ports, this is the reason why within the MEDports, the Port members have worked on this issue.
Within the MEDports Association women represent nearly 20% of the Port Authority Workforce. This has improved year after year, 5 years ago this percentage was similar to the global workforce.
Currently Women are found in all Port sectors, whether this may be management and administration or port police and operational force.
